For a committed progressive, this past year has been death by a thousand cuts. The decision by the American Medical Association (AMA) on Wednesday to back limits on sex changes for minors was just one more swipe of the scalpel. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons had done the same the day before. When even allies like the reliably woke AMA abandon the faith, it is time to rev up the hysteria.
Former communist Whittaker Chambers described the Left’s faith as “the second oldest,” the one first preached by the serpent in Genesis with the beguiling words, “Ye shall be as gods.” For Chambers, communism was simply the boldest manifestation of that faith—“the vision of man’s mind displacing God as the creative intelligence of the world.”
This humanist vision has encouraged our friends to believe that man could change the climate or even the sex with which God has blessed us. Writing a century ago, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger called this pseudo-science-driven shift from traditional theology “a new theology, the promise of a new heaven, an earthly paradise.” In November 2024, Democrats relied on this new theology to define their messaging. By November 2025, the theology had been shredded, the promise betrayed, and the dream of an earthly paradise all but abandoned.
And we wonder why our woke friends are hysterical? They have entered, it would seem, the “ghost dance” phase of their fragile faith. Their many street corner rallies mimic the ghost dances of late 19th century Plains Indians—desperate, messianic, gatherings organized to help the cultists cope with the stress of cultural collapse.
I noticed the hysteria gin up not so much on Election Day as on Inauguration Day. Watching President Trump sign his many executive orders, leftists could see how unlike gods they really were. The iconoclast-in-chief was shattering the very props of their godless faith: the climate change agenda, the trans movement, DEI. And for the moment, the ghost dancers could do nothing but take their fury to the streets.
The same people who told us “kindness was everything” could not hate Trump enough, but Trump was only half the problem. The faithful were being betrayed from within. Climate guru Bill Gates proved to be as much a traitor as the AMA. When he announced that the “[doomsday] view is wrong” and the New York Times followed up with an op-ed headlined, “Bill Gates has a point,” these subversives stripped the teleology out of climate theology.
That Dei is the Latin word for “gods” only makes sense. Black podcaster Jason Whitlock has accurately described DEI as a symptom of “racial idolatry,” the replacement of a Biblical God with the worship of race. Had black activists stuck to race they could have prolonged their scam, but by adding equity and inclusion they overreached. They diluted their brand. They also gave the right a handle to beat them with as potentially comic as “woke.” But no need to worry about beatings. No one will march to Selma to protect DEI.
With their faith in shreds, leftists are hell bent on protecting the one most sacrosanct tenet of their theology, the one right that makes them most God-like, namely the right to decide who lives and dies. Not content to kill their unborn, they are expanding the state franchise to the the dying and depressed.
If the Left feels betrayed by their own, traditionalists, alas, have reason to feel the same way. Most subversive are those Christian clerics who give our death cultists sanctuary under the ruse of “seamless garment theology.” Without Christian cover, their cult would shrivel and die.
Move over, Satan. Dante was indeed on to something when he reserved the ninth and lowest circle of his “Inferno” for traitors.

The way to protect trans-identified youth is to support them in loving and accepting themselves as they are, not pretending with them that they're someone else, and most definitely not poisoning them with puberty blockers and hormones and mutilating them with surgery.
The original formulation was “diversity, inclusion, equity” but then they realized DIE wasn’t an ideal acronym.
