School Shooter's Only Sane Thoughts Were on Gun Control

"Robin" Westman Did Not Need a Psychiatrist. He Needed an Exorcist.

I attend a traditional Catholic Church, the kind that not too long ago the FBI saw fit to infiltrate and monitor. Each Sunday, at the mass I attend, I see two large gentlemen casually sitting outside greeting parishioners. Although not in any way obvious, each is armed and prepared. There have been enough attacks on churches and Catholic institutions to merit their presence.

After reading the journal of Robin Westman, translated by AI from its original pig-Cyrillic into readable English, I am all the more glad of their presence. Westman achieved instant notoriety on Wednesday for shooting into the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis on Wednesday, killing two children and wounding nearly a score more. If nothing else, Westman is proof there is a demonic presence afoot in the land.

“As a 17-year-old,” the New York Times writes of Westman, “she filed a court document to change her first name, to Robin from Robert. It was also signed by her mother. The document noted that Ms. Westman ‘identified as female and wants her name to reflect that identification.’”

The Times can she/her Westman all the editors like, but there is no mistaking the malevolent male voice that comes through in this journal. The change in name did not feminize the gun-loving, carnage-seeking soul of this deeply disturbed young man.

Although raised by loving parents, Westman had no greater ambition since the seventh grade than to execute a mass killing, ideally of children, preferably up close and personal. Upon reading Satan’s Daily Briefing at his current residence, Westman will be disappointed to see that he only killed two. Had he fulfilled his ambitions, the carnage would have been much worse.

For the most part Westman’s journal is obsessive and narcissistic. But there is one point at which Westman actually makes sense. A student of previous mass killings, he understood one truism much better than the average liberal, namely, “Criminals with intentions are not going to follow rules.”

The 23-year-old Westman evaluated mass killers the way young men his age do draft picks for their fantasy football leagues. “I recently heard a rumor that James Holmes, the Aurora Theater shooter, may have chosen venues [because they were] ‘gun free zones,” he wrote. In 2012, Holmes shot and killed 12 people and wounded 62 others in a crowded Colorado movie theater. Holmes is now serving multiple life sentences in a federal prison in Pennsylvania.

“I understand why high security places like prisons or airports are different,” Westman continued. “But for most public places, the people going in are unarmed. Holmes wanted to make sure his victims would be unarmed. That’s why I and many others like schools so much. At least for me, I am focused on them.”

This is the one take-away from the shooting worthy of attention. Westman was beyond the reach of a psychiatrist. He needed an exorcist. And there is little society can do but, as Westman suggested, protect themselves from monsters like him.

Despite this one moment of reason, Holmes failed to reconcile his ready absorption of liberal bromides with the inherent darkness of his nature. “I want a better society. I hate fascism. I hate inequality,” he wrote. “I also love when kids get shot, I love to see death told real.”

It is not-so-paradoxical thinking like this that inspired Westman to write “Kill Donald Trump” on his gun magazines and has made the “trantifa” movement possible.
