My theory is that Trump and his team know all this, and are preparing a devastating series of federal cases that will begin before the midterms. There are too many interconnected crimes, in too many states. They can’t hide those money flows from the feds, especially now that they are helped by DOGE’s sysadmin control of federal computer systems, AI, and Trump’s techbro allies. Democrats (and some Republicans) can’t count on biased judges to get away with all those crimes. Once some start talking to reduce their own sentences, dominoes will start falling. There will be years of huge scandals, which Trump will orchestrate like a reality TV show.
He'll have multiple wins: Bust fraud. Save tax money. Indict Democrats for real crimes (not the made-up lawfare they used on him and the J6ers). Disrupt their fundraising (ActBlue laundered a lot of those fraud dollars back into campaigns). Not sure if you've read it but The Great Society by Amity Shlaes is an amazing book on the hubris, corruption, and abject failure around the War on Poverty. Came out right before COVID. It seems like the left is always trying to rewrite history in favor of their narrative, but the more I read about the self inflicted wounds since the 1960s I see a few key themes that seem to go wholesale undiscussed in polite society. First, the behavior of migrants to the cities made life untenable and overwhelmed everyone. This caused white and black flight, along with business migration and the erosion of the tax base. Second, the Civil Rights movement very quickly went from banned exclusion (good) to mandatory inclusion as the message from early leaders (assimilation) was co-opted into black power grievance politics (redistribution without any behavioral change or accountability)--this is still the core pillar of democratic politics. Third, the book does a great job of showing the role that socialists played in forcing deindustrialization and factory migration to the south by inundating businesses with outrageous wage demands and specifically the DRUM movement in Detroit weaving in more black grievance. The birth of current day wealth/success resentment. Lastly, every arm of the program was rife with incompetence, corruption, failure, and, you guessed it--zero accountability. The irony is that in debates conservatives called the correct outcome almost always but were successfully classified as racists. I could go on an on there is so much to talk about here.
